Bonnie Wolff and Herman Engel, combined, have over 25 years of school board leadership experience. Their service in these voluntary roles exemplifies their commitment to education and their appreciation for the positive impact that high-quality schools have on the local community. Bonnie, as a former school teacher and active Girl Scout volunteer, and Herman, as a current middle school teacher in Kennett Consolidated School District, and both as current Avon Grove School Board Directors bring the deep knowledge and understanding necessary for the effective oversight of the District. Their focus remains on ensuring the DIstrict is well equipped to support student achievement while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Bonnie and her husband, Barry, moved to Avon Grove in 1993 with their 2 children, both graduated from Avon Grove. Barry worked for Boeing in Ridley Park until he recently retired after 36 years of service. Bonnie was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom and used her time to volunteer for many of her children’s activities during their school years, as well as with the PTA. She is still active in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Bonnie has a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, special education, and elementary education from Russell Sage College and a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, with a concentration in special education from Seattle University. She taught sixth grade in an elementary school and then took a job teaching reading and language in a special education classroom in a junior high school.

In Bonnie’s 15 years on the board, she has served in multiple leadership roles and on every standing committee. That experience, combined with her educational experience, makes her uniquely qualified to serve on the Avon Grove School Board.
Herman and his wife, Joanne, moved into the Avon Grove District in December of 2000.  Both of their children are products of the Avon Grove School District. Both Herman and Joanne have been educators in the public school system for the past 27 years.
Herman has his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies and Bachelors of Arts in History from the Pennsylvania State University, Elementary Teaching certification from the University of Pittsburgh, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the Pennsylvania State University and Principal Certification from that same university.
Herman has served for the past 9 years on the Avon Grove School Board.  That service has included chairmanship of the Curriculum, Finance, and Facilities committees.  This experience along with his professional experience makes him extremely qualified to continue his service for the next four years.
